& I mean mental posture as well as physical posture. In our sessions we focus on physical posture ....and in particular the comfort & alignment of the spine. |
Easy Posture
Let’s turn our attention to posture. In Yoga, ease & alignment of the spine is given great significance. Visualise your spinal column and let it be relaxed & upright. Column of Golden Light: There is a column of golden light that extends from the base of your spine to the crown of your head. In Yoga this is called “Shushumna” and is said to be the subtle element of the spine, just as Prana is the subtle element of the breath. Visualise this column of golden light extending from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Truly, as you go about your life, it is your support both physically & mentally. Consciously Relax the Spine As you visualise this column of light, allow all your vertebrae from the base of the spine up through the neck to relax. Take a deeper breath. As you breath in & breath out again, feel the whole spine relaxing & elongating a fraction. Connect with Earth & the Cosmos In yoga it is said that the column of light extends through the crown of the head and out into the vast cosmos, and also down to the core of the earth through the base of the spine. As you visualise this extended column of light, allow your spine to elongate in a relaxed way so your awareness can go to out into the cosmos as well as to the core of the earth.
